Alexander Mackay & James Hannington
Alexander Mackay
Alexander Mackay was a highly-skilled young man dedicated to the Lord and His mission field. He was one of the first missionaries to Uganda. He faced the triple issues of slavery, pagan idolatry, and cannibalism. He patiently labored in this land and ultimately was martyred for His God. He willingly gave His life so that others might hear of the True Life, Jesus Christ. What an example!
James Hannington
James Hannington longed to be a missionary and follow in the footsteps of Alexander Mackay. He faced hardship after hardship, but his zeal never failed. He wanted to live his life on the mission field and to die for His God. Ultimately, that is exactly what happened.

Ann Judson & Pandita Ramabai
Ann Judson
Ann Judson left family, home, and prosperity to follow her husband and the Lord Jesus Christ to bring the gospel to the far-off land of Burma. She did this in a time when travel was difficult, there were no furloughs or retirement, and little or no support. She was a woman of great courage whose walk with the Lord will perhaps inspire others to follow the Lord as well.
Pandita Ramabai,
This is the incredible story of Pandita Ramabai, a woman from India, and how she came to the Lord in a nearly impossible situation in a pagan country. India was an appalling country for women, and the situation was much worse for widows and young girls. Pandita Ramabai not only found the Lord, but also became a tool in His Hand to bring hundreds to Him for salvation. There is much for all of us to learn from her life. One quote I copied down was: "I wish them (the unconverted) to see the contrast in every thing where love rules." What a motto for all believers to practice! We pray you shall be blessed by reading her biography.

I have really been blessed by the writings of Isobel Kuhn. She was a missionary to China along with her husband John. She was an exemplary helpmeet to him. This autobiographical book covers her life growing up in a Christian home, losing her faith in secular college, going from doubt back to a strong faith in God, and preparing for the mission field to serve God the rest of her days. It is an excellent book. It will reaffirm your faith in a God Who answers prayers, and it will encourage you to trust Him more for answers to your prayers too. Written for adults or mature teens.

Chance to Die
Our favorite biographies are those in which the author uses many of the original writings from books or journals of the person who is the subject of the biography. This lets the reader take a peek into the mind and thoughts of that person. Mrs. Elliot employs this method in her biography of Amy Carmichael. For those of you who do not know, Amy Carmichael was a missionary to India where she rescued and mothered hundreds of children. She was a very dedicated missionary, and her dedication is an inspiration to the rest of us.

Columbian Jungle Escape
This is an excellent contemporary missionary story of the Dulka family, their life, and eventual escape from Communist guerillas in the jungles of Columbia. People often think missionaries live glamorous lives, when, in reality, the lives of serious missionaries can be unbelievably difficult. Each day can be a test of personal survival. The Dulkas have a godly testimony. A great deal can be learned from their lives.

David Livingstone & Robert Moffat Biography
Robert Moffat
You will be blessed to read the life of Robert Moffat. He loved the Lord and served Him well. He left his beloved Scotland for the dark continent of Africa. There he spent his entire life patiently sowing God's Word in the hearts of the natives. He lived with the barest of necessities while rearing his family. He endured unspeakable hardships as he took every opportunity to teach the natives. He translated the Bible into their language. He left an enduring ministry which his son carried on after him. It is a very great blessing to read the account of his departure from this temporal earth to his eternal home in heaven. Oh, may we all learn to love our Saviour and have as deep a relationship with Jesus as Robert Moffat had!
David Livingstone
This excellent biography reveals the heart of this dedicated servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. His first desire was to reach the natives for the Lord with salvation. Because of constant and aggressive opposition to missionaries by the white slave traders, he was forced to become an explorer in order to open up a new path for missionaries to come into Africa. His next earnest desire was to stop the horrors of the slave trade. His life was one of loneliness and suffering, but he never lost sight of his mission as a servant to the Lord. He was faithful to Christ unto the end. You will also enjoy reading about his precious relationship with his dear wife, Mary. Livingstone's life will be an encouragement to you. He was a man of great character and loved the Lord with his whole heart!

Drummer's Wife
The Drummer's Wife is based on the factual stories of 14 martyrs during the 1500's in the Netherlands. This is excellent reading material if read alone, but it can also be a powerful read-aloud-to-the-family book. It will provoke a lot of thought and discussion on the essence of "standing for Christ." You will never be the same after reading these stories of believers who truly understood the meaning of giving up life in this world for life with Jesus in the next. The back cover states that the only true fruit of the Reformation was the Anabaptists. This claim may go a little too far for an otherwise excellent book. Highly recommended.

Evidence Not Seen
On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 20! A dozen of our customers have recommended this book to us. I do not know why we took so long in finding it, but we are so glad we finally did. This is the true story of Darlene Deibler Rose, a young American missionary, and her courage and triumph of faith in the jungles of New Guinea during her four years in a notorious Japanese prison camp. Your spiritual life will never be the same after reading her story. The way you look at life, and most likely, the way you look at God will forever be changed. Her life and daily walk is a vivid example of the concept of abiding in Jesus Christ, moment by moment, in the severest of trials, not complaining, being used of Him, and glorifying Him throughout. You will be inspired by her life, but God will receive all the glory for His workings. She is a humble woman mightily used of God in her situation in life. May we be found to be such faithful servants of our mighty God. You will be challenged, inspired, and encouraged from reading this book.

Fanny Crosby & Frances Havergal Biography
Fanny Crosby
Fanny Crosby was a humble, little woman who was blind, and yet she "saw" spiritually so much more than many of us sighted followers of Christ. Fanny Crosby's testimony for Christ lives on because of her many inspirational hymns, which we still love and sing today. Fanny lived her life quietly, each day doing a little something for the Lord. The sum total of her "little somethings" added up to a life lived well for the Lord Jesus Christ. May we do as much!
Frances Havergal
Frances Havergal was a single woman who loved the Lord and filled her life with service for the Lord Jesus Christ. She wrote poems, songs, books, and tracts. She supported missions. Wherever she was, she spoke a word and witnessed for God. Winning others to Jesus was her constant desire and prayer. She was an encouragement to her family and a blessing to all who knew her.

John Bunyan & Dwight L Moody Biography
John Bunyan
John Bunyan was a preacher, author, husband, father and one of the most faithful followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. He chose prison rather than freedom. He chose poverty rather than riches. He chose loneliness rather than family. Through it all, he spent his time studying God's Word and writing from his prison cell. He wrote Pilgrim's Progress which became the world's best selling book next to the Bible. Surely, as the Bible says, "their works do follow them." John Bunyan's works are still following him as thousands upon thousands are still reading about him and his books. His life is well worth reading!
D. L. Moody
This biography recounts the life of a busy man who, upon conversion to the Lord Jesus Christ, gave his life wholly to Him. D. L. Moody loved children and knew they, too, needed to hear about his Saviour. He put his love into action by creating Sunday schools for the poor and needy children of Chicago. He taught others how to do what he was doing, so they, too, could reach lost children for the Lord. It is incredible what one life, wholly surrendered to God, can do!

Little Woman
We just love it when we can bring you an autobiography, instead of a biography. The author, can, in his/her own words, share the spiritual highlights of his/her life, instead of a second-party choosing what to share. Modern day biographies often read like high-paced adventure stories, instead of revealing the true nature of a true Christian's life, that of a servant. Gladys Aylward was a woman who came to Christ and wanted to give her life on the mission field for Him. No mission board would have her, but she knew God called her to go, so go she went. God provided for her every step of the way. She was a constant witness sharing the gospel throughout the hundreds of villages in China. Hers was a life lived for the Master. You will be blessed by reading her story. She was a little woman but she served a big God. Your faith will be strengthened by reading about our marvelous God Who sheds His light in some very dark places.

Mary Bunyan
This biography is a treasure. It was written over 200years ago and focuses nearly entirely on Mary Bunyan, John’s daughter, and how she achieved spiritual victory over the countless trials in her life. Throughout the story you will glimpse the hearts of her mother and father and friends of the family who helped throughout John Bunyan’s imprisonment. To read about the faith of these people who lived through severe religious persecution, the plague, and harsh poverty, and who could still praise God, and live for Him, was convicting of the shallowness of our own modern day Christianity. These people lived and breathed the Scriptures. We were challenged to speak, live, minister, disciple and love in a far more real way than the status quo of modern Christianity because of reading this book. This is excellent reading and recommended for teens and adults.

Mary Slessor Biography
The Missionary Heroine of Calabar—A Story of Mary Slessor
The biography of Mary Slessor will inspire all who read it! She was a woman who loved God, and was busy every minute of every day serving Him. She left Scotland to become a missionary in Africa—quite an act of faith for a single woman in those days. She ministered morning, noon, and night, quite fearlessly, to the sometimes very savage natives. She became a leader among the African chiefs, often settling their disputes without them resorting to violence. After her lifetime of service, many members of African tribes had come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, and had become much more civilized in their ways, laying down lifetime superstitions and customs as they came under the power of the Word of God. You will be amazed at what this one woman accomplished as she was used of God.

Nothing Daunted
This truly is a well-written biography of the life of Isobel Kuhn, missionary to China. After some rebellious teen years, she surrendered her life to the Lord. She prepared herself to be a missionary, and married John Kuhn, a missionary to China. Their lives were an inspiration to us. They labored day after day, living in all manner of circumstances, working for our Lord to win the lost in China. She was an excellent wife and helpmeet to her missionary husband. She was not doing her own work, but helping him with his work. We have not located a biography of her husband. If there is not one written, there needs to be. He was a true servant of the Lord.

Susanna Wesley, Mother of John & Charles Wesley
If you are looking for a true biography of Susanna Wesley, this is it. Though Lions Roar
This biography will most likely leave a deep impression upon you. This woman, after finding the Savior, wanted to give Him her life, and she did. After graduating from medical school, she went to the Belgian Congo. She labored morning, noon, and night ministering to the people.
In 1960 the colony gained independence, but four years later the Simba rebellion threw the country into anarchy. The rebels began a reign of terror, and missionaries were under a constant threat of personal assault and death. This woman, after giving God her all, was personally assaulted by one of the men. Most of us would have wondered where God was. Why didn't He protect her from such a horrible thing? She lived to praise His name. Mature teenagers and adults will find this book to be a real encouragement to their spiritual walk.

Trial and Burning of John Huss
This is a remarkable book written in the 15th century by a Catholic who was a participating member of the Council of Constance, and who was actually present at the trial and burning of John Huss. The book is an eyewitness account with the exact words of Huss and the words of each council member giving their final words and verdict on whether Huss should live or die. This is excellent historical reading, and a moving record of a man's faith with his last thoughts and words. I would recommend this for teenage to adult.

William Carey & Hudson Taylor
William Carey
The saying "You are becoming what you will be" certainly rang true in William Carey's life. As a boy, he possessed an insatiable appetite for learning of every type. He was an avid reader and studier of nature. He was diligent and displayed great perseverance. He used all these traits in his life's calling of being a pioneer missionary to India. He served the Lord Jesus Christ faithfully unto the end.
Hudson Taylor
Hudson Taylor was a pioneer missionary to China. He labored incessantly day and night to bring the Gospel to China's millions. His life is an inspiration of faithfulness and steadfastness, always keeping his heart aimed on the goal set before him. He suffered much sickness and personal deprivation with a willing spirit as he continued his work for the Lord. It is amazing to read what one man, wholly dedicated to God, can accomplish with God's blessing, leadership, and direction.

William Wilberforce Freedom Fighter
This is an excellent biography. It is written for youth, but due to the nature of some of the content, (the horrors of slavery) it would probably be best for the child to be twelve or older. William Wilberforce was a contemporary of John Wesley and John Newton, and was a very influential member of Parliament. He worked tirelessly to end slavery. He was an extremely wealthy man before he came to know the Lord. Once, he came to the Lord, his life conformed more and more to Christ, until he had expended his health and his entire fortune to help the poor, and yet, he continued to praise God. This man accomplished what would take most men several lifetimes.
