This old reprint is one of the best. We would put it right at the top with Stepping Heavenward. It is the story of a man who could have had a prosperous position in the king's court, but wisely chose, instead, to be a lowly gardener in order to avoid causing his relationship with God to endure the inevitable swarm of temptations that would accompany the more "noble" position. This is not to say that his life is henceforth free of trials, and his faith untested, but because of his career choice and quiet life, the trials or tests that he endures tend to raise him to a much higher walk, rather than his life being a continual struggle to simply avoid temptations. This man, James, loves the Lord and lives a life dedicated to God. Some very devastating trials come into his life, especially regarding his only living child, but his faith never fails. Because there are so many lessons to talk about in this book, it makes a great read-aloud book for the whole family. On a scale of one to ten, this one is a twenty! Old Reprint. This is a beautifully bound hardback edition.

Mrs. Alden seldom wrote light-hearted stories, but this one is light-hearted and uplifting. You won't be able to put it down once you begin reading it! And yet with all the light-heartedness, the plan of salvation is made incredibly plain for those young people who find it so "hard" to surrender their lives to the Lord Jesus. Great book for teens as well as adults. KOF Old Reprint.

Product Image Add To Cart   Chrissy's Endeavor
Chrissy is such an interesting character—a confident eighteen-year-old. She's a good member of her church, but is she really a believer in the Lord Jesus? She has high moral standards according to her family and church, but are they the standards of her Saviour? In her efforts to do good, is she really doing good? Is busyness for the Lord equal to serving Him? These and many more questions will be answered by Chrissy's challenges. A very life-changing book!

This delightful story has little to do with Christmas but everything to do with a sweet Christian girl, Christie, who spent a very unusual and eventful day sowing seeds of kindness. Little did she know how those seeds would grow and prosper. Even a child can live for Jesus, and Christie is an excellent example of such a life. Good story for boys and girls. The whole family will enjoy it! KOF Old Reprint.

These stories deal with the struggles, and eventual victory, in the Christian life. They will awaken the reader to many of those insidious little temptations that are so subtle that we often simply do not notice them as disgraces to our Savior, or that we are in such habit of excusing so painlessly that we have since concluded them harmless. This book is excellent reading for anyone who wishes a better understanding of the multitude of little things that make up "living for Christ." KOF Old Reprint.

Product Image Add To Cart   Dairyman's Daughter
This is a true story written in 1800 chronicling the life and death of a young girl, detailing her conversion to the Lord Jesus Christ. She lives her life for His glory in small, quiet ways, of being a dutiful daughter to her aged parents. It is estimated that over two million copies of this book have been printed in the English language alone. We can see why. Old reprint.

Product Image Add To Cart   Docia's Journal
With the backdrop of the Civil War, this is a fascinating read of a young girl, Docia, who reveals through her journal her one great desire to be rich. She believes that if she were rich, she would be happy. Of course, as she comes to the Lord, and learns of Him and His ways, the folly of her great desire slowly becomes apparent to her. Her journey to womanhood and her journey in following Christ is one that most readers will enjoy taking with her. Excellent!

Product Image Add To Cart   Jessie Wells
We are excited to bring Jessie Wells back into print. It was Mrs. Alden’s second book and was written in 1867. We think it is one of her best. It is the story of a teenage girl who has made a profession in Christ, but there seems to be no evidence of it in her life. She decides to get serious about her walk with Christ. Another thread woven into the story is about Jessie’s unbelieving brother. She turns her prayers and heart toward home and winning those closest to her. It makes a difference. This is an excellent story for everyone, but especially for young ladies.

Product Image Add To Cart   Judge Burnham's Daughters
Once again we meet Ruth Erskine (Four Girls at Chautauqua) now Ruth Burnham. She has become "unequally yoked," and this volume details many trials and heartaches that arise from this situation. Also, though she has managed to hold to her faith, she has done it with such hardness that she has driven her family away not only from her, but also from the Lord. As the story progresses, she sees the error of her ways. She commits herself again to the Lord and begins to live out her faith with a true Christlike love. The result is that her family is slowly drawn closer to her, and eventually to the Lord. This story also highlights the unfortunate results of choosing wrong priorities in the lives of children—focusing too much on the outward appearances rather than on the heart. The sadness and trials that Ruth Erskine, though a Christian, encountered through her own wrong choices and ill-advised decisions, can serve as great warnings to those who might be tempted to follow some of the same paths. Product Image Add To Cart   King's Servant
The King's Servant, although the title is slightly misleading, is actually the story of four individuals who loved the Lord and tried to serve Him with all of their lives. Their stories will inspire you, that whether you have little or much, regardless of age or strength, we each can be a servant of the King. Like Mrs. Stretton's other stories, this one will also point the reader into a more personal, loving relationship with Jesus, which, in turn, will help one to love others as He loved us. Product Image Add To Cart   Least Said, Soonest Mended
What a title! What a story! Some of the advice given by the wise mother to her daughter who loved to talk is: ". . . the main part of the good and evil that we do in our lives is done with the tongue." "Mind you, it's ‘least said, soonest mended,' in the long run." "What's said can never be unsaid." The dangers of too much talk are clearly pointed out, and the dire consequences which follow such talk are clearly shown in the lives of the characters, in particular, the main character, a sweet girl named Kitty. Idle words, passing compliments, and sometimes too much admiration and praise spoken by others may also be a source of trouble in a young person's life as it was in this story. "Least said, soonest mended" is a profound phrase you will not want to forget! We made a plaque to hang up as a constant reminder to say less rather than more. Great story! Great lessons! Product Image Add To Cart   Lim Family of Singapore
This excellent story is written for teenagers. It is basically a true missionary story with substitute names. Singapore is the setting for the story of a family steeped in idol worship and superstition, and how they come to Christ. It is also interesting to see that when someone comes to Christ, they must give up all of their old life. This often means a great deal of personal sacrifice. They cannot just say a prayer for salvation and add Jesus to their present life. It makes you wonder how many American Christians could make that decision—Jesus or the old life, when it appears many American Christians seem to have both. Excellent!

Product Image Add To Cart   Martyr of The Catacombs
This is an exceptional story about a young Roman soldier who converts to Christianity. Becoming a Christian not only meant the loss of job, money and friends, but also meant to give up living in the fresh air and to become a outcast to live in the dark, damp underground catacombs. It is the story of these brave Christians, who knew that eventually, their very lives would be offered as a sacrifice to God in the Coliseum for the entertainment of the Romans. This is a remarkable book! If you are studying the early Christians or the history of Rome, it would be a great addition to your studies. Because of the nature of the deaths of these dear saints, it might not be best for a young child to read it.

Just as the Lord tested the Israelites in the wilderness to prove them to see if they would obey Him, He tests each one of us. My Mates and I is the story of one lad's testing in the wilderness of his life. He learns the great difference between reformation and repentance. He learns that good resolutions are useless unless one learns to depend on Jesus for strength and grace. The book is loaded with good advice and spiritual admonitions which will encourage any reader to stay on the straight and true path. KOF Old Reprint.

Few of us will ever realize the deep poverty of thousands of people in England during the last century. Hesba Stretton lets us take a look at one poverty-stricken family, whose dear mother is a believer in the Lord Jesus, and despite poverty and hardship, plus having an unbelieving husband, an antagonistic neighbor and sore trials, this woman trusted in the Lord and found comfort in Him. It is also the story of a young boy, her son, who shares this life, is loyal to his mother, and goes through a very deep trial where he must learn forgiveness. This is an excellent story for older boys, and everyone can learn many lessons about the Christian walk. Old Reprint.

Product Image Add To Cart   Only a Servant
This is a great book to read aloud with the family, for there is much to discuss in it. It is the story of a young man who comes to a new town and hires out as a farm hand. He is a real Christian, as evidenced by his profession and life, and goes about serving all with whom he comes in contact. Are we servants because we attend church, tithe, and do a few good works? This story is an eye opener about what true servant hood is. Adults would receive a blessing from reading this book as well as those who are younger. In fact, it should be on the required reading list for the whole family.

Product Image Add To Cart   Only Ten Cents
Even though Only Ten Cents is about a child, there is something for every age in this poignant, true story. I wonder if Mrs. Alden didn't write this for teens and adults to show us our many failings in dealing with children. It is the story of a very poor girl in very undesirable circumstances who desperately wants to find out about what it truly means to be a Christian and have a clean heart. We all can learn from this one!

Product Image Add To Cart   Princess in Calico
On a scale of 1 to 5, this is a 10. This should be required reading for every teenage girl, wife and mother! It is the story of a teenage girl who lives a difficult life, is able to escape it for a better life, finds Jesus, matures in her walk, and then must make the choice to go back to the difficult life to fill needs or continue in the enjoyable life. The great beauty of this book is the deep spiritual teaching of living above one's circumstances—and not just living above, but living victoriously. The book teaches how to have the joy of the Lord instead of a complaining and depressing attitude, rejoicing in Him above circumstances, and finding the great jewel of contentment. Housework becomes an altar; serving becomes grateful obedience to the Lord. This little story showed me what Jesus would like me to be. It made me cry over my sins and renew in my heart a purpose to become a princess in calico for my King.

Product Image Add To Cart   Three People
This is an outstanding book for young men! It is an exciting story that showcases the value of honesty, hard work and obedience. It is the story of three boys all born on the same day: one born into poverty, one born into middle class society, and one born into wealth. The lives of these three boys become intertwined as they grow and mature into young manhood. It portrays each young man's life as he faces the temptations of the world and his character is tested. The best thing about this book is that one young man is a follower of Christ with a fertile heart. He is prompt, courteous, respectful and honest, and, in due course, is rewarded accordingly. Young men will find this book inspiring as it gives them a glimpse of the men they can be. Parents, you will be well pleased with this example of manhood. Excellent for boys, but all ages will enjoy this title. As an adult, I couldn't put the book down! KOF Old Reprint.

This book is outstanding! We do not, however, recommend it for younger children because at one point a man, overcome with despair from a lifetime of sin, takes his own life. We would recommend it for all older children, though, and highly recommend it for adults. The book lays bare many of those sneaky sinful attitudes upon which we put a righteous, Christian facade. In fact, this book could be used to draw up a rather comprehensive list of practical objectives to strive for in rearing godly men and women. This is the story of Mr. Bragwell and Mr. Worthy, one a professing Christian, and one a possessing Christian. The topics of their conversations include keeping the ten commandments as Jesus taught them in the Sermon on the Mount, Christian business ethics, family living, rearing children, and others. There are jewels of wisdom on every page. Old reprint.

Product Image Add To Cart   Widow's Son
This is a collection of three stories written in the 1800's. The first, The Widow's Son, is the story of a young man leaving a godly mother to learn a trade in the city. He is influenced by companions at work to leave the ways of God and follow more worldly paths. The Lord burdens him with a life threatening illness and the realization of eternity. It is an excellent story and will serve as a warning to young people to flee the enticements of worldly friends. The second story, The Watchmaker and His Family, tells of a poor watchmaker's struggles to provide for his family and remain faithful to His Lord. This story has some interesting thoughts on keeping the Sabbath Day. It will make you think! The third story, ‘Tis All for the Best, should be a must read for all of us. This narrative relates how a man and wife endured many hardships, bringing them to trust less in the world and more in Him who is able to provide all things necessary for time and eternity. It will be difficult for anyone to complain or feel sorry for themselves after reading this little story. This is a story you will want to read and reread. Old Reprint. (pb, 5½x8½, 99 pages)

Product Image Add To Cart   Zoli's Legacy
This book is targeted for older children. It is historical fiction based on the life of Zoltán Gaal. The events in the story are factual. Because they are, it has details from a number of not-so-perfect lives in it, as might be the case with some of our own past lives. When one’s heritage is non-Christian, oftentimes, there is hatred, bitterness, and wrongdoing in the lives of one’s extended family-perhaps even in our own until we come to the Savior. This is true of this life story. We cannot rewrite history, even our own. All this to say, Zoli's Legacy full of history and personal relationships, but not for younger children who cannot sort out wrongdoing, hatred, or prejudices. The story begins at the close of World War I and spans thirty years to the close of World War II. Zoltán is a Hungarian youth, who does not yet know the Savior. His life is a hard one. When the story ends, Zoltán is a married man with children escaping the Communists by crossing the barbed wire fence in the night to freedom. In the course of his years, due to the influence of a Christian teacher and the Bible, he came to the Lord.
