This is truly an encyclopedia on decorative painting. Every topic is made plain with wonderful attention to detail and large colorful pictures. The explanations are excellent. I'll list some for you: Under "Materials and Supplies" it says, "What Do I Need and What Do They Do?" Under "Brush Techniques" it says, "What Do I Really Need to Know?" and under "Strokework" it says, "How Do I Get My Strokes to Look Like That?" There are projects and patterns scattered throughout the book. If you can only purchase one book, make it this one.

These are great projects for children! After they have collected some differently shaped large and small rocks, and given the rocks a good scrubbing, the rocks will be ready to paint. The designs range from simple to advanced, and even include some inspirational designs. The rocks can be placed in a rock garden, or placed among flowers, or even made into a paper weight.

I wish I had found this book sooner! So often, we admire beautiful decorative painting, and wish we could paint as well. Our problem is that we try to duplicate what we see with just a few brushes never fully realizing all the tools that are available, which produce such amazingly different effects. This book is a complete guide to 19 brushes—their shapes and their uses. It has many wonderful, full-color pictures providing many examples for the user. Many different painting strokes are covered as well as a section for caring for brushes. I would think this would be an essential book for anyone who really wants to learn the skill of decorative painting. (Decorative painting is often called Tole Painting.)
