Subject: Patriotism Badge

Looking for ideas on earning the Patriotism Badge. The boys are packing boxes to send to the troops for Christmas and I was going to use the "Others" badge. But now I see you have the Patriotism badge so I thought I'd use that but add to the requirements. Thought about flag folding, history of flag and other symbols, maybe have a vet come in and talk. Ideas?

Subject: Character Teaching Time-Cheerfulness Help!!

Hi, Our small homeschool group has just started Keepers at Home. We are blessed with 17 girls and mothers. We have chosen Cheerfulness. I would like help, ideas, suggestions, where to look for teaching Cheerfulness with the group in interactive, creative lessons. I have heard ideas of looking up verses on cheerfulness. Cutting apart a verse on paper and having them in small groups put it back together. Can anyone share tried and true lessons that were great. Help!!!! This is my part and I want to do the best for the Lord and for these girls and their families. Thank you

Subject: Family Badge

Our group will be working on the family badge and I'm looking for ideas of what we can do during our meeting time. We plan to focus on the Bible story of Naomi and Ruth. Our group is set up so that each girl works individually to complete the skill and our meeting time is just a focus on that particular skill. Any suggestions?

Subject: Older Kids Helping Younger With Badges

The two oldest boys in our Contenders class had already received their Gold Bird Badge last year but all the younger boys being new didn't. So we had the older boys to serve as captains and chose teams. We then made a game of it to see which team could fill in all the required fields fastest(some younger boys were unable to read or to write). So now with that done most of the younger boys could qualify for a silver badge. What could we do for the two older boys seeing they already have the Gold from last year?

Subject: Pocketknife Book

My son would like to complete the requirements for the pocketknife badge, but we have not been able to locate a book on knife safety.  We have tried the library, and several bookstores, to no avail.  Do you know of any actual titles that we could ask for?

We'd like to try pressed flower projects with our girls and are wondering what is the best product to glue them with and also should we cover the project with contact paper or something to protect them from crumbling?  Any other suggestions?

Subject: Candlemaking

I am going to make candles with our Keepers at Home group this next month and we have 20-24 girls in our group.  How much wax should I purchase and what would you recommend for the other equipment.  I wanted to make ice candles in qt. to 1/2 gal cardboard juice containers.  We also thought of making poured candles in orange juice concentrate cans.  I was also going to make bees wax candles and sand candles.  Would those count?

Subject: Etiquette

We are working on the Etiquette Pin and have a question. Item number one on "Things to Learn" states "Demonstrate how to stand, walk and sit like a lady. Demonstrate the proper way of picking an object up off the floor. Demonstrate how to get in and out of a car like a lady." We are at a loss to know there was an improper way and a proper way. Do you have any resources you could suggest to give us ideas on this?

I am so glad to see the Academic and Character Badges. Will there be any more Academic ones added? We are going to start some Science projects that don't fit into any of the other badges. Thank you.

Subject: Wanting skills necessary for girls badges to use for boys

I just received our Contender's Handbook for our 4 boys today, but noticed in the catalog a few badges for girls that we'd be interested in.  A few are the chef or cooking skills, and scrapbooking. Is it OK to ask someone for the skills list without buying a girls handbook that I don't need? Can I ask somone on an e-mail list for example? Or could you provide me this information somehow? We are starting a family club. Thanks so much for this opportunity! We look forward to our journey!

Subject: Learning Disabilities

We have recently joined a group in our local area. We had our first and a discussion was brought up about the ability of my son a 5th grader possibly being able to memorize the scripture passage the leaders had chosen to receive that badge. I was told that he could get the silver badge, but not the gold if he could not memorize it. I was very insulted, because if he truly tries but is unable and needs prompting he should still be able to get a gold one. Do you have any suggestions that I could take to the leaders concerning learning disabilities? Thank you.

Subject: Badges easiest for 5-6 year olds Keepers at Home

I was curious as to what you felt were the easiest badges for a 5-6 year old to complete without causing undo stress in the Keepers at Home (Stepping Stones) manual. Thanks!

Subject: Badges

I have a family who is a little concerned about the costs of all the badges. They were curious if they could make some homemade patches to go on a banner for their child. I wanted to write and be sure that this would be acceptable. We, as a club have no problem with this but just wanted to check with you.

Subject: Croquet Questions

I have a question about the Croquet questions in the Keepers at Home handbook on page 347. I cannot find any information on "What is a striker?" and "What is a sticky wicket?" Could you let me know where I could get this information or help us out? Thank you.

Subject: Badge Questions

We noticed that there was a "Patriotism" badge but could not find the requirements for it.  What are they?

We would like to see a "Hiking" badge and an "Amatuer Radio" badge.  If you think this is feasible, we could assist with the badge requirements.  I am a national park ranger an amatuer radio operator.

Thanks for all of your hard work in your ministry.  It has been a blessing to our family.  In the future, could you develop a program for older boys and young men?

God bless you all,

Peter

Subject: Badge Ideas

We have a group of younger age girls meeting for "Keepers at Home".   Last year they enjoyed counted cross stitch, but they needed our help for most of it. We also did some simple baking and worked on manners. Can you give us some direction as to other badges appropriate for their skill level?

Our girls started a few pages of a prayer journal. To receive the spiritual warrior badge, should they work on it each time we meet, or do the work at home and bring it to the club when finished? Thanks for your response, we don’t know of any other groups here in our area. We are so excited to find you have a website full of such helpful information.

God bless you and prosper you in all areas.

Subject: Crochet Patterns

I just received your catalog today and I can see that it is going to be very useful.  our homeschool group is starting a club and the girls can't wait to get started.  I wonder if you or some of your readers might have a pattern for crocheted chignon cover (we call them bun covers) or small snoods.  Many of our girls like to get their long hair up off their necks and "buns" become untidy.  The commercial ones cost quite a lot and crocheting our own would be a good project.  Thank you for any help you might be able to give.
