Most clubs use sashes because they are easy to purchase or sew, and one size lasts for many years. Therefore, sashes are very economical. However, there are some groups who prefer vests to display their badges. I haven’t heard of anyone using a sweater to display badges. A cardigan sweater might not be strong enough to support the weight of very many badges. You would have to test it out to see. Sashes and vests are usually made out of a very heavy fabric called "Twill". Twill fabric has no stretch to it. Hope this helps you.
