Another LMM Testimony

Keepers, thanks for sharing LLM’s occult and New Age beliefs. I have never read the books, but I have seen the first two Kevin O Sullivan movies and the BBC version of Anne of Avonlea (which I‘ve heard was closer to the books than the other movies). There were several things that bothered me.

The term ‘kindred spirits,’ I believe most women mean a best friend or someone who thinks alike, but if you search the term, you will also find a New Age definition. I’ve seen the term used in a psychic way and as another term for ‘soul mate.’

Anne talks about a woman’s spirit staying near her grave in Anne of Avonlea. (BBC version)

An author comes and visits Anne and talks about visiting a clairvoyant. (BBC) The character Lavender, whom I took to be an older version of Anne, is really spacey, into nature, poetry, and I think I remember her talking about the trees and stars singing. (BBC)

When Ruby is dying she asks Anne for some kind of comfort or hope. All Anne can do is say that she will think about it and write her a letter. The letter says that life is a journey and death is just another place to travel to on this journey. Ruby tells Marilla that she now has hope, but sadly it is a false hope. What Ruby needed was the gospel. (BBC)

Rachel and Marilla were sitting on the porch knitting and Rachel talks about how she can’t believe that the pastor said the heathen won’t burn in hell forever. She wonders what the point of missionaries is if hell isn‘t forever. Marilla just chuckles and talks about doing good for our fellow man. (O Sullivan version)

Just a few things that I can remember not to mention that Anne has quite a few sinful habits and behaviors: a hot temper, disrespecting an elder (Rachel), holding a grudge (Gilbert), being stubborn (walking on the roof), a daydreamer, babbler, and romantic.
