Bowling Etiquette and Family Games

We really enjoy family bowling trips. Here is the skill sets that I came up with to teach my children about this fun game. All of my children have completed these requirements and enjoyed doing them. Bowling is a popular activity in our country. It takes some practice to roll the ball 60 feet down the 42 inch wide lane and knock down the pins. With practice this can be done quite easily. Beginner bowlers can also use bumpers when first learning the game. You may bowl alone or with a group of one to three other bowlers. Bowling provides a great opportunity for fun with family and friends. Most bowling lanes provide many leagues throughout the year.

What you will need: A bowling lane where you can practice and learn the game

Helpful information:

  • When bowling make sure that the ball you select is not too heavy and fits your hand and fingers well.
  • When bowling always defer to the bowlers in process to your right or left.
  • Never talk to or interupt someone while they are in the act of bowling
  • Always compliment your co-bowlers and always be a good sport.

Things to learn:

  1. Read a book or an article on bowling.  List title and author.
  2. Explain the following terms: Strike, Spare, Open, Split
  3. Explain what a foul is and how it affects your score.
  4. Learn how to keep score and demonstrate this knowledge to your parent or leader.
  5. Bowl three different times.  List the dates.
