History: How We Use It

How do we recommend using the history curriculum for homeschooling? We recommend using only the textbooks, tests, and answer keys. The child should read the assigned pages and discuss them with the parent during class time. As the parent often adds additional information and understanding, these discussions can become very interesting. They can lead into areas in which the child becomes interested in further research involving the use of globes, encyclopedias and other reference materials. The chapters often become just a springboard for learning things about many other topics. We were able to accomplish the work in sixty to ninety minutes of class time per week.

What About Tests?
We think that tests are extremely helpful, and the children really do love them! They are always so happy to prove to themselves that they are doing well and advancing in knowledge! See the introduction to science in this catalog to find out how tests can become an effective, enjoyable teaching tool for you.

As we said, we recommend only the textbooks, tests and answer keys. However, we do have additional teacher's manuals and activity sheets available for those who wish more supplemental helps.
