This is the heart-warming story of a couple's first year of marriage. Due to lack of housing opportunities, they must settle in a less than desirable location in the city. They determine to make the best of the situation and be "lights" to their surrounding neighbors. The couple ministers to all types of folks trying to share the blessed gospel while serving them in common ways. It is very uplifting reading and will perhaps stir the heart of the reader to reach out and minister to those in his/her own neighborhood. Old reprint.

Review by: Patience in Murray, IA
Set in England during the 1800’s, this book is the story of John and Susie Dean, a Christian couple just recently married. Forced to settle on Caroline Street, they witness to those around them in that low-down area of the city. By reading KOF books, one cannot fail to see the harm and utter destruction of liquor in its various forms. Entire homes and families can become torn apart by one drink. Oh, that we would raise the temperance banner high, and share the gospel with the dying souls around us! If we could only be such lights in a dark world that all would say, “They have been with Jesus” as the Jews said long ago of the apostle Peter. Little Homes and Big Hearts will inspired me to minister to the needs of people, spiritually and physically. This book is very well-written and detailed, and was a sincere help to me. Mary Ropes did a wonderful job, and I recommend this book to all.
