This is one of the most heart-warming stories Mrs. Alden wrote, and as always, there is plenty for the reader to learn, regardless of the reader's age. Two children, one an unloved orphan, one a poor child, are very good friends, but life brings a sorrowful separation. Eighty-seven chronicles their growing-up years on very different paths. What will happen to the young man? Will he turn into the wrong path because there is no one to guide him? Will he be determined to make something of himself regardless of obstacles? Will his pride keep him from coming to Christ? And, the young girl . . . what kind of lady will she become? Will her life ever get easier? Will she ever see her friend again? This story is rich in love, rich in character, and rich in blessings for the reader.

Review by: Jennifer in Wamego, KS
This one is actually a sequel to Little Fishers and Their Nets, which is and intermediate read. I consider this one a little more adventurous than most of Isabella's books, and as the main character is a boy, Winter Kelland, it would be good for a boy, they will be able to relate.
