This is one of Mrs. Alden's finest works. It is the story of a grandmother's Bible handed down to her daughter, whose young son reads a portion of it each night. He finds verses which have been highlighted by his grandmother, and ponders what they mean. He takes a verse for a day or sometimes a week, and God, ever so faithfully, teaches this young boy what the verse means, and how it should be applied in his daily life. This would make an excellent family read-aloud, but would be perfect for any young boy! Old reprint.

“Her Mother’s Bible” is a story of multi-generational faith. Doubtful Ralph discovers his Grandmother’s handwritten notes jotted in the columns of her Bible, which she has handed down as the sole heirloom to her daughter, Ralph’s mother. Like altars to the Lord, these reflections quietly point to a providential and never-changing God. And over time, Ralph comes to know the truth of God’s Word. According to Deuteronomy 6, a heritage of faith is God’s desire for His children. After reading “Her Mother’s Bible” I could not but ask myself, “Is this my desire as well?” This notion of multi-generational faith is new to me, and its far-reaching implications are slowly being revealed in my life. Daily I must demonstrate to my children the fruits of a life redeemed, the testimony of a creature rescued from the miry bog. Daily I shall praise the One Whose mercies are new every morning, the Creator Who cares for me and for my children and for my children’s children.
