Nearly every time I read or reread one of Mrs. Alden's stories, I think it must be the best one! This one surely is near the top of the list! This story begins with Flossie Roberts of Four Girls at Chautauqa, having been just married and moving to New York to begin her new life. This story excels in showing the reader how to really live and work for the Master, our Lord Jesus Christ! It shows the reader countless ways to reach some of the most seemingly unreachable people for Jesus. Also, Flossie is an excellent example of a soft, feminine woman with a gentle, but powerful, Christian walk. Best of all, this is a true story. Mrs. Alden assures the reader that there really was a Flossie Shipley (albeit her name could have been changed), and she really did accomplish these things in her early days of marriage. If that be true, then I would assuredly think much of the Chautauqua and Ester Ried series would be based on true stories. You will not want to miss this one! KOF Old Reprint.

Review by: Patience in Murray, IA
Flossy Shipley Roberts (from Four Girls at Chautauqua), wise beyond her years and sweet in nature, just moved to New York with her husband, Evan Roberts. On encountering Alfred Reid (from Ester Reid), she begins the job of teacher to a group of rowdy poor boys from bad parts of the city. She goes about trying to reach her boys for Jesus, and herself becoming a part of their lives that would last forever. Flossy is a zealous worker for Christ, and her influence reaches to all around her. Her dear ways and compassionate nature shows as she works for the Kingdom. A true story, this one shows how one Christian girl’s desire was fulfilled in others even years after her early death, that Ester Reid, “being dead, yet speaketh.” A heart-stirring account that inspired me to work more for God, not giving up, but being patient and trustful that eventually results will show. A book to be read by all, and truly a good read.

I read one of the Esther Ried books in Russian. What a powerful all inspiring story. I was extremely challenged and encouraged. I would recommend these books to any girl who wants a personal relationship with Christ.
