This is the first in a series of two stories dealing with the puzzles of family life, and in particular the Christian life of the Randolph family. The Randolph family is composed of a sweet, quiet, rather sickly wife, a godly, quiet-mannered earnest father, four very diverse sisters, two of whom are professing believers and two which attend church but profess nothing, and an unbelieving eldest brother. The demands of a financially struggling household place a heavy burden on the members, causing a number of puzzling dilemmas. They react in a variety of different ways.
 Mrs. Alden does not give pat answers to life's puzzles but rather, as in life, lets the characters work out things for themselves. This sometimes frustrating story is a very real clip of human lives with and without the true peace of God. As you read this story and the sequel, The Randolphs, you will see the hand of God leading and directing and drawing each one to Himself through the trials and circumstances of life. You will see the transformation in attitudes that only He can bring about in His children. You will see the unbelievers and professing believers come to a real and vibrant living faith in Him. This series is definitely worth reading. Our entire family enjoyed reading these stories and talking about them, and even recognizing some of ourselves in the characters of these pages.
