This is the age-old story of a young lady who thinks she know more than her dear widowed mother, and longs to leave the safe shelter of her home to spend time with her more worldly cousin in the city. You will find your heart quietly urging Flora not to go, not to listen, not to be deceived, but self-will often leads to self-deception, and the consequences are heartbreaking. This excellent story is full of many truths; you will want to read the story of Flora.

Review by: Patience in Murray, IA
The title of this book is very descriptive of the content of this book, which is set in England. Flora is an interesting character, who is greatly deceived as to her true self. She is influenced by a friend of hers (who doesn’t try to do her harm), and so Flora leaves her widowed mother to go to the city, with heart-rending consequences.

I was greatly blessed by the chapter in this book called “The Novel”, in which it shows that people can learn about the author of a book by reading their works and examining the content of their books. Sadly, Flora falls for the author of “The Novel”, and I cried inwardly for her to not be so self-deceived. But as Christians we can all be deceived in one way or another, so I found that we need to examine ourselves before God and question ourselves. Are our works for God’s glory or ourselves?

A. L. O. E. did a wonderful job with writing this book, which is full of many truths throughout its pages. I enjoyed this book and its treasures, and I think everyone would enjoy reading the story of Flora Vernon.
